Emergency Dentist Brentwood

First impressions last, especially when it comes to having a great smile! The traditional path to a straight smile requires metal wiring and limitations on your diet and activity. Luckily there is a clear alternative to the traditional wire braces!

WHAT IS INVISALIGN?

Invisalign is an innovative way to invisibly align your teeth. No matter if it is for teenagers going to school or adults heading to work, Invisalign is an easy and comfortable way to straighten teeth. Unlike the traditional braces which are made of irritating metals and wires, Invisalign is made from clear liners which you can wear comfortably. You can be confident knowing you are transforming your smile without the embarrassment of metal wires.

The Invisalign aligners are custom made for your teeth and are very simple to use. They can be easily removed for eating, brushing, and flossing your teeth. Invisalign can treat various forms of dental conditions, including crowding, cross bites, protrusion, and uneven spacing. The best part about Invisalign is that they are completely transparent and no one will know you are wearing them.

If you or your loved ones are in need of orthodontic treatment, Dr. Neda Naim at Brentwood Dentistry will be happy to offer you a consultation to determine if Invisalign is an option for you. With over 10 years of Invisalign dentistry experience, Dr. Naim is the expert in restorative and cosmetic dentistry in Los Angeles.

HOW DOES INVISALIGN WORK?

Invisalign transforms your smile by progressively straightening teeth over several stages. The highly engineered Invisalign aligners are made specifically for your teeth and will gently push your teeth towards the desired position. Every set of aligners are specifically shaped for each treatment stage. Depending on your specific teeth arrangement and Invisalign schedule, you will need to switch aligners every several weeks.

On average, each set of aligners will be used for two weeks and your teeth will be slightly adjusted within this timeframe from the pressure applied by the aligners. Afterwards, a new set will be provided, which will be shaped according to the next stage of the treatment. This process will continue for about twelve to eighteen months until your teeth are completely straightened.

The whole process is very simple and painless. In fact, you will quickly get used to wearing the aligners without much hassle throughout the treatment. And at the end, you will have a beautiful and sparkling smile!

THE BENEFITS OF INVISALIGN

  • Invisalign aligners are made of clear material which means they are transparent and will not cover your teeth like conventional metal braces. They are virtually invisible.
  • The aligners are also very easy to use. They can be taken off from the teeth when necessary such as when eating, brushing, or flossing making dental hygiene simple.
  • Invisalign aligners are comfortable and painless. They do not poke at you like traditional metal wire braces.
  • The technology behind Invisalign allows your teeth to become straightened quickly and effectively without straining the mouth.
  • The lack of metal frames and wires prevent any food particles from collecting on your teeth. This in turn helps your teeth stay clean and free of diseases and other dental conditions.

3D CUSTOM TECHNOLOGY

Firstly, your dentist or orthodontist will carefully examine your teeth and plan how your teeth will gradually become straightened over a course of time. This step usually involves taking X-rays as well as impressions of your teeth. These reports are then sent to Invisalign.

At Invisalign, your X-rays and dental impressions are scanned using state-of-the-art technology and a digital 3D model of your teeth is then developed. Once the digital imaging is complete, the next step is to develop a 3D simulation which portrays how each of your teeth will slowly move into the desired positions. All of this information is sent to your doctor for review and to make any final adjustments, if necessary.

Once the doctor approves of the design, the 3D model is sent to the manufacturers who will use this data to design unique aligners just for your teeth. The aligners are made using liquid resin and advanced laser technology with extreme precision. Once finished, they are cleaned and shipped to your doctor. Finally, next time you visit your doctor, your new Invisalign aligners will be waiting for you!

BASIC INVISALIGN CARE

Even though they are simple to use, the Invisalign aligners do need to be taken care of. Firstly, make sure to remove them when you are eating, drinking, brushing, or flossing your teeth. Moreover, you should also clean them using a toothbrush and toothpaste under cool water. Please, try to avoid using warm water as it is not suitable for the material from which the aligners are made from.

When you remove your aligners, make sure to place them in their appropriate cases that are provided to you for easy access. If you lose your aligners, please give us a call and we will be able to replace them.

Invisalign FAQs

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take for Most Adults?

For most adults, Invisalign treatment takes between 12 and 18 months to complete, though the exact timeline depends on the complexity of your case and how consistently you wear your aligners. Mild crowding or spacing issues can often be corrected in as little as six months, while more involved cases may require treatment closer to the 18-month mark or beyond.

The process works in stages. Each set of aligners is typically worn for about two weeks, gently shifting your teeth toward their next position before you move on to the next set in the series. Progress check-ins with Dr. Naim allow her to monitor your movement and make any necessary adjustments along the way.

One of the most important factors in staying on schedule is wearing your aligners as directed: a minimum of 20 to 22 hours per day. Patients who are diligent about wear time and follow Dr. Naim's guidance tend to finish on time or even ahead of schedule. If you're wondering how long your specific treatment might take, a consultation at Brentwood Dentistry is the best place to start, as Dr. Naim can evaluate your teeth and provide a realistic estimate based on your individual goals.

Is Invisalign as Effective as Braces for Complex Cases?

Invisalign is capable of treating a wide range of orthodontic issues, including crowding, spacing, crossbites, overbites, underbites, and protrusion. For many mild to moderate cases, Invisalign delivers results that are fully comparable to traditional braces, with the added benefit of being virtually invisible and far more comfortable to wear day to day.

For more complex cases, the answer depends on the specific nature of the misalignment and the skill of the provider overseeing treatment. This is where Dr. Naim's depth of experience makes a meaningful difference. As a provider certified in advanced Phase II Invisalign therapy, she is trained to handle more challenging cases that go beyond the scope of a general Invisalign provider. She also combines her orthodontic expertise with her background in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, allowing her to create treatment plans that address both alignment and overall smile aesthetics simultaneously.

In some situations, Dr. Naim may recommend a mixed approach, pairing Invisalign with restorative treatments to achieve the most comprehensive result possible. If you've been told in the past that your case is too complex for clear aligners, it's worth scheduling a consultation to get Dr. Naim's assessment.

Can You Eat and Drink Normally While Using Invisalign Aligners?

One of the most celebrated advantages of Invisalign over traditional braces is the freedom it gives you at mealtimes. Because the aligners are fully removable, you simply take them out before eating and enjoy your meals exactly as you normally would, with no restrictions on what foods you can eat. Crunchy vegetables, chewy proteins, corn on the cob, hard candies: nothing is off-limits the way it is with brackets and wires.

The same principle applies to most beverages, with one important caveat: water is the only drink you should consume while your aligners are in place. Beverages like coffee, tea, juice, soda, and wine can stain the clear aligner material and make it noticeably less discreet, which defeats one of the main reasons many patients choose Invisalign in the first place. Hot drinks are particularly problematic, as heat can warp the plastic and compromise the precise fit that makes your treatment effective.

After eating or drinking anything other than water, rinse your mouth before reinserting your aligners. Keeping up with this habit, along with brushing and flossing regularly, will help maintain both your oral health and the clarity of your aligners throughout your treatment.

What Happens If I Don't Wear My Invisalign Aligners Enough Each Day?

Consistency is the cornerstone of successful Invisalign treatment. The aligners are engineered to apply a precise, continuous amount of pressure to your teeth, and that process only works when they are worn for the recommended 20 to 22 hours per day. Falling short of that window, even by a few hours regularly, can significantly disrupt the progress of your treatment.

When aligners aren't worn enough, teeth don't move as planned, which means each new set of aligners may not fit correctly. This can cause discomfort when you try to advance to the next stage, force you to backtrack to a previous set, or ultimately extend your total treatment time. In more pronounced cases of inconsistency, Dr. Naim may need to order refinement aligners to correct course, which adds both time and cost to your treatment.

Life happens, and the occasional lapse in your wearing schedule is understandable. But patients who treat Invisalign like the medical appliance it is, wearing it faithfully and only removing it to eat, drink, and clean their teeth, consistently achieve the fastest outcomes. If you find compliance challenging, Dr. Naim and her team are here to offer practical guidance and support to keep your treatment on track.
